Dr. Stacy Hunt, Owner & Managing Director at BUCKS ESC, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Sport Psychologist in Newtown, Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from New York University and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia, as well as from California State University at Dominguez Hills.
Dr. Hunt did her Doctoral Internship at Ewing Residential Treatment Center and The Department of Children and Families (DYFS) in New Jersey. She did her Post-Doctoral Internship at both Penndel Mental Health Center and at T.L.C. Associates in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Hunt has also trained at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in the Adolescent HIV Initiative and in the Neuropsychology Department (Psycho-Educational Evaluations), at the Culpeper Juvenile Correctional Center (Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice) in the Behavioral Services Unit, and at the Mary D. Ainsworth Psychological Clinic at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Hunt specializes in working with children, teens and adults with a variety of concerns including ADHD, anxiety, mood disorders. Her particular interests are assessment of ADHD, PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections), substance use and abuse disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, as well as working with people in the LGBTQI community.
Dr. Hunt is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, solution-focused therapy, ego psychology, interpersonal therapy and relational therapy. The particular treatment modality, frequency of sessions and length of treatment depend on the difficulties that the individual experiences, the severity of the symptoms, the level of current functioning, as well as the age of the client.
In addition to clinical psychology, Dr. Hunt also specializes in Sports Psychology and works with athletes of all levels. Her experience with mental health issues, particularly with eating disorders and addictions, gives her a specialized awareness when working with athletes. Dr. Hunt is a Certified Spinning Instructor, and owns Newtown Yoga along with her husband, which is also in Barclay Commons. Adding yoga, mindfulness and meditation to her work with people of all ages has proven very effective in the treatment of an array of challenges.
Dr. Hunt believes in finding the style of therapy that will most powerfully affect change for each individual, while building on the client’s own strengths and resources.
Dr. Hunt also runs Psychotherapy Support Groups for Teens and Adults suffering from Eating Disorders.
